2007 & weather

It's early November and it's hard to imagine how a nice and sunny day feels like. Talking about the weather! 2007 is surely one of the most unstable year when the weather is concerned. We had a hot spring, cool summer and basically a wet year. Friends who took a trip to New Zealand during October were treated with lots of rain and windy conditions. Not exactly what you are looking for when you decide to take the wet dream destination of fly fishermen...

Was 2007 a normal year at your heck of the woods or are the weather hick ups we saw in Europe part of a global proces?

2007 is almost coming to an end. Well not quite maybe. I just might treat myself with a short trip to the Austrian river which is still open this late. Not sure how the weather will hold up.

Keep posted for the trip report. Here is the trip report of last winter.

  1. In middle Finland we have relatively level landscape, lot of lakes, and rivers between these lakes. Winter is cold enough to freeze all the lakes. So from trout fisherman's perspective you hope:
    1. Warm/hot spring
    2. Average June
    3. Cold July and August (because if water temperature rises above 20C the big trout flee to the lakes)
    4. Warm/hot fall (to keep the water temperature high enough)

In July this year it rained a lot and it was cold; and it was good for fishing as the water temperature didn't get too high. With all the lakes the rivers (in Middle Finland) don't take any color, and generally rising water level brings more and bigger trout to the rivers from the lakes.

So, right here where I live, 2007 was almost better than average, for trout fishermen.

  2. Well Olli, looks like you got the weather you wanted. However it looks like things are changing. I can't remember when the last time was we had a cold enough winter to freeze up the ponds and see kids ice skating.

We have had a rough year here in BC, Canada as well. The weather has been very up and down. Not the usual weather for the west coast of Canada, but that's the way it goes.

BTW, would you like to do a blogroll exchange?
