Tom Morgan in San Francisco

Here are some rare pictures of the Winston shop in San Francisco from the mid 1970's. In 1973 Tom Morgan bought Winston from Doug Merrick, then the sole owner of Winston after Lew Stoner passed away in 1957. We see how a very young Tom is learning the rod building craft from Doug. Tom Morgan passed away June 12, 2017.

Thank you Frederick E. Grafeld for the pictures (Copyright 2016)!

Tasmania

Just listened to the podcast by the guys at So Fly Fishing about fly fishing in Tasmania with Greg FrenchTasmania is an island under main land and the smallest state of Australia. The first brown trouts arrived here in 1864 before distributed out to mainland Australia and New Zealand.

After listening to the podcast I couldn't help watching again the great video Todd Moen did for Catch Magazine on Tasmania. The small and intimate streams with very beautiful red spotted German strain browns looks like heaven with a light fiberglass or bamboo fly rod. The other fly fishing attraction in Tasmania is sight fishing for the black spotted Loch Leven strain brown trouts in the many shallow lakes.

And of course we also got the amazing DVD Tasmania by Gin Clear Media, one of the trilogy from the series called The Source. The trilogy can be watched as video-on-demand here.
